ELSO Excellence in Life Support Award
University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Receives Prestigious Critical Care Award
The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) awards UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Center with the Excellence in Life Support Award. ECMO is one of the most advanced forms of life support available to patients experiencing acute failure of the cardiorespiratory system.
The organization created the award to recognize and acknowledge extraordinary achievement in the following three categories:
- Excellence in promoting the mission, activities and vision of ELSO
- Excellence in patient care by using the highest quality measures, processes and structures based upon evidence
- Excellence in training, education, collaboration and communication that supports the ELSO guidelines and contributes to a healing environment
Dedicated to Advancing Patient Care
ECMO indicates a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care, specialized equipment and supplies, defined patient protocols, advanced education for all staff members and high quality standards. ELSO’s goal is to recognize and honor ECMO programs internationally that reach the highest level of performance, innovation, satisfaction and quality.
Who is ELSO?
ELSO membership is composed of over 115 active centers from the United States and around the world. Over 30,000 patients are included in the organization’s registry data. The information provides member ECMO centers with benchmarking data, protocols, guidelines and standards. Data from participating centers is compiled into center specific and international reports. That content can be used for quality assurance purposes. ELSO sponsored conferences and registry data support the research.
