University Hospitals’ 2011 community benefit contribution of $267 million covers a multitude of important programs that serve residents of Northeast Ohio.
Caring for the community has been an unwavering commitment of University Hospitals since our founding in 1866. It is a commitment that is at the core of our mission: To Heal. To Teach. To Discover.
University Hospitals’ community benefit programs are developed in response to identified needs throughout our diverse region.
These programs help protect the vulnerable in our society and touch the lives of those who find themselves physically or socially isolated. We help people recognize health problems through screenings so they can get the care they need. We help people learn healthy ways to live and how to prevent injuries and illness. And we care for poor and uninsured people in our community.
Through University Hospitals’ extensive medical education and research programs, we share vital health information with the public and health professionals around the world. These efforts improve the quality of medical care for all of us and will continue to do so for future generations.
And by reinvesting our resources in Northeast Ohio, we help ensure the availability of the best health care for our communities. We remain a major driver of the region’s economy and a steward of one of the community’s major assets.
In 2011, University Hospitals contributed $267 million to community benefit programs in Northeast Ohio, including $47 million in charity care. This represents 12.9 percent of our net patient revenue and $23.5 million more than our 2010 contribution.
